Given their first performances at the Soraya on Thursday night, the works ask, instead, what music can do for trees. “Treelogy: A Musical Portrait of California’s Redwood, Sequoia and Joshua Trees” features three new “tree” pieces by composers from California. Would we have recorded music were it not for the wood that made loudspeaker cabinets? We bless them for having given us so many of our instruments and listening spaces. Trees have made music, as pretty much most of the world knows it, possible.
